Equine Worming Calendar

When do I treat and with what?

Nothing is set in stone as to when and what to worm your horses with but we hope to provide some guidelines with the following information. There are some circumstances, such as foaling, lactating and general health reasons when you need to take special care in choosing the right equine worming products, and we are more than happy to advise on such occasions. Also you must consider the use of faecal egg counts, tapeworm tests and pasture management circumstances to help with deciding when, if and what to treat with.If treatment is required the following should help guide your ingredient choices

Winter Months Treat for Encysted Small Redworm Larvae with Moxidectin or a 5 day course of Febendazole.
Winter Months Treat for Bots with Moxidectin or Ivermectin.
Spring/Autumn
If a single annual treatment is selected then late summer
Treat for Tapeworm with double dose of Pyrantel or a combination product containing Praziquantel and Ivermectin.
Summer Grazing Season Treat for Roundworm and Large & Small Redworm with Ivermectin, Pyrantel, Moxidectin or Febendazole.
Year Round All products can be used throughout the year for routine worming (subject to being required) with specific products being used at specific times when necessary.Ensure the products you are using are effective in your circumstances with regard to resistance and remember to dose at the correct levels for the weight of your animals.

The above is merely a guide as you must consider all factors before deciding to treat. By building up a history of your testing and treating regime we will be more enabled to be more specific in our recommendations.
